How to Make a Cheap Camera or iPod Touch/iPhone Mount For Your Bike

This is a cheap, easy, and functional alternative to buying an expensive camera mount for your bike. (ScholarGnome.com)

Materials Needed:

(1) Electrical Tape: this could be any colour.
(1) Scissor: for cutting the electrical tape.
(1) Rotatable Tripod Stand Camera Holder For Apple iPhone 5 4 4S 4G 3G iPod Mobile / Costs $5.48 USD (Buy Here)
(1) Long Shoelace: this could be any colour

What you see here is my best attempt at mounting the tripod at the centre of the handlebar.

Instruction:

(1) First, I tightly wound the shoelace around the tripod to give it structural rigidity. Proper winding increases friction so you'll have a sturdy base to mount your camera.

(2) After winding the shoelace tightly around the tripod base, you then use your electrical tape to cover the shoelace. This will make it appear seamless and a little aesthetically pleasing.

(3) Try and adjust the ballpoint of the tripod to make it a little sturdier. You do this by tightening a screw in the tripod. You can tighten this by hand.

(4) Install your iPod Touch/iPhone/ camera on the tripod mount. Make sure it is balanced and not leaning on one side or the other.

You're almost done!

Further Instructions on Securing your iPod Touch/iPhone.

Photojojo has a product specifically created for the iPod Touch and iPhone, however, the mechanism that they're using to secure your precious device on the camera mount does not elicit confidence. Personally, I would try to get a case that would fit my iPod/iPhone securely. In my attempt, I merely tried to use pieces of electrical tapes to secure my device to the mount.

Obviously, there are better solutions out there. For the moment, I just can't determine what works best for my iPod Touch. Once I can think of something better, I'll share it with you.

I admit that it is far from perfect, but for less than $10, it is the best a mount can get.

What do you think?
