Top Gun: Combat Zones is an action game with several different gameplay styles. The game includes open top-down flight levels, side-scrolling SHMUP levels and even pseudo-3D levels that scroll forward. In every case, however, you're always in the cockpit of a fighter jet. This is Top Gun, after all. Your missions range from blowing up buildings to destroying a certain amount of enemies. It sounds good, but the gameplay does get boring quickly. Particularly the top-down levels, which are slow and tedious. Nonetheless, if you're a Top Gun fan who wants to try a different take on the Combat Zones idea, this GBA version is at least different from the poorly received home console version. This video review features video gameplay footage of Top Gun: Combat Zones for the Game Boy Advance and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Derek.
