Mumbai building collapse kills at least 5

Rescue workers use heavy machinery to dig through the rubble of this collapsed building in the suburbs of Mumbai, India.

The three storey building caved in on itself in the early hours of Friday, killing at least five people, including a young boy.

Many more were injured.

Officials on the scene say police just stood by, waiting for the National Disaster Response Force, rather than coordinating rescue efforts.

Mumbai, the commercial capital of India, is no stranger to similar incidents.

In April, another building in the same area crumbled, killing 70 people.

Many buildings here are built ignoring safety regulations and often have extra floors or structures added illegally.
