Robot Mimics Primate Movement for Rescue Operations

Scientists at Boston Dynamics are working on a contraption that is simian-inspired. Described as a limbed robot, it will copy the movements and postures of a primate.
These days technology has enabled us to design robots that can perform human-like tasks making many people wonder if the machine could really rule the world.
Scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory are working on a contraption that is simian-inspired.
Called the RoboSimian it will copy the movements and postures of a primate. It is currently in the construction phase but the designers plan on having it perform at DARPA’s Robotics Challenge in December of this year.
According to Nasa authorities “This groundbreaking RoboSimian uses deliberate and stable operations to complete challenging tasks under supervised tele-operation while in a degraded human environment.”
The robot would primarily be used in search and rescue operations. As monkeys have an easy time traveling through difficult terrains like jungles, the primate inspired design of the RoboSimian makes it perfect for navigating through disaster ridden areas.
The RoboSimian has four general limbs. There is no over-the-top, intricate front or face on the robot, but that aspect allows a larger range of motion on top of enhanced perception.
