There are countless studies pointing out the similarities between humans and chimpanzees. One recent report validates that chimps have the same weaknesses as people, in the form of sweet treats.

Staff at the Twycross Zoo in Warwickshire were able to successfully lure chimps out of a section of the facility that they were not supposed to be in, by offering the primates ice cream and fizzy drinks. They were easily enticed by the goodies and placed back inside their own enclosures.

The chimps had somehow escaped from their enclosure and wandered over to a secure service area, forcing a temporary shutdown of the facility. The zoo issued a statement directly following the incident which noted “The Zoo reopened at 11.30am today and all of the chimps are fine, if not a little excited about having ice cream for breakfast. They are all on view to the public as normal.”

Staff made it clear that no humans or chimpanzees were harmed resulting from the ordeal. The zoo has launched an internal investigation in order to find out how the mischievous chimps escaped.
