It's a nightmare scenario - passing out behind the wheel and it can happen to any of us.

A 10-year-old boy came to the rescue after his great grandmother passed out behind the wheel and he credits playing Mario Kart for his heroic driving skills.

Gryffin Sanders, his great grandmother, and his little brother were all in the car when the woman suddenly, right in the middle of a sentence, lost consciousness.

The car was moving at about 60 miles an hour.

At first he thought it was some kind of test. After he had a moment for the situation to sink in, though, he climbed out of the passenger seat and took command of the wheel.

They had been starting to veer into oncoming traffic, but Gryffin spotted an opportunity to get off of the road safely.

He skillfully steered the car into a muddy patch on the side of the road. The ditch allowed for a full stop and none of the passengers were harmed.

It was later discovered that his grandmother had suffered a heart attack while driving and she is now recovering.
