Yoshiki releases new classical album

Japanese rock star and classical composer Yoshiki has released a new album titled "Yoshiki Classical," out digitally in the U.S. on Tuesday (August 27).

The classically trained pianist best known as the lead performer of X Japan, a heavy metal rock band created in the late 1980's that have sold more than 30 million albums, was at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles on Monday (August 26) to perform a few classical compositions off the album.

The artist, who lost his father to suicide when he was only 10 years old, also mourned the death of X Japan's guitarist Hide in 1998.

"Sometimes I was in a lot of pain, and sometimes I try to create a melody to bring myself up as well. Usually when I write something beautiful, I'm very, very sad. I think that's in me because I lost so many close friends as well as my father. That kind of melody just comes from me, from inside."
