Greek civil servants begin series of strikes

The government workers union in Greece has staged the first of what is planned to be a series of strikes to protest against job cuts in the civil service. Thousands of public sector jobs are to go as the government struggles to respect international lenders' imposed austerity and public spending cuts in exchange for a deficit bailout.
