UN chemical weapons experts convoy attacked by snipers in Damascus

Unidentified snipers on Monday opened fire on a UN convoy of chemical-weapons experts heading to a site of a suspected poison gas attack in Damascus.
According to reports, the six-car convoy left the Four Seasons hotel accompanied by a security forces vehicle and an ambulance. Inside the cars, the 20 inspectors were wearing blue UN body armour.
The convoy was entering Moadamiyeh, a buffer zone between rebel- and government-controlled territory, when the first vehicle was shot at by snipers multiple times.
No one was injured but the vehicle was no longer serviceable and replaced.
According to reports, the convoy managed to arrive at their intended destination to meet with doctors and victims at a makeshift hospital.
According to Reuters, "The UN investigation comes amid rising calls by Western powers for reprisals against President Bashar al-Assad's government, who they say was responsible for the attack.
"Syria agreed on Sunday to allow the inspectors to visit the sites. But the United States and its allies say evidence has probably been destroyed by heavy government shelling of the area over the past five days."
Syrian state television blamed rebel "terrorists" for the shooting. The opposition blamed it on pro-Assad militiamen.
