A Pantip.com user in Thailand under the account name of Magrood Baiwaeng posted photos online on September 23 showing a part of a cockoach leg stuck under the wrapper of his wife's airplane food during a Bangkok Airways flight to Phuket on September 12. The photos also show other bits of the insect on stuck to the side of the fruit bowl.

According to the user, the airline responded very quickly with a formal apology after he sent an email of complaint. The airline also gave his family three free domestic-travel tickets, a souvenir doll and a formal letter of apology.

Thavatvong Thanasumitra, executive vice president of corporate planning at Bangkok Airways, and chairman of Bangkok Air Catering Co (BAC), said the insect possibly the a food packing area where it became stuck to the plastic film wrap during the packing process, according to The Bangkok Post.

No food handlers had reported any foreign objects during the packing process, with quality control staff were being questioned, Thanasumitra added.

According to Thanasumitra, the company has over 120 insect monitoring traps placed around food handling and equipment areas, and more than 20 traps have been placed in vehicles that transport food products. However, he says no cockroach has been captured so far.

Most online commenters are in agreement that Bangkok Airways handled the problem well, but should also improve its healthy safety measures.
