Japanese fast food giant Yoshinoya recently announced they will soon be growing rice and vegetables just 60 miles from Fukushima.

The company has announced they will soon be growing rice and vegetables just 60 miles from Fukushima.
They also plan to build a vegetable processing facility there.
In the two and a half years since the area was devastated by one of the worst nuclear disasters in history, many consumers have refused to buy food from anywhere in Fukushima.
This has led to a drop in prices for the prefecture’s once-celebrated produce, even that coming from farms that are far outside the government-established safety perimeters.
Yoshinoya has assured the public they will put safety measures in place to ensure that none of the produce leaving the area is compromised.
They also said that both the farm and the processing plant will provide the local residents with much needed jobs.
Ultimately, the fast food chain believes that establishing the joint business with local farmers will aid in the Fukushima prefecture recovery.
