Awesome Amitabh. Sexy Salman. Hunky Hrithik. Simply Shahid. You name the star, he's made him dance. The one & only Chinni Prakash opens his 1st dance academy in London.
Chinni Prakash is one of the leading choreographers in Bollywood- the home to Hindi cinema and sparkling aspirations. Right from an early age, he cherished a dream of making it big in Hindi movies. After finishing his studies, he landed in Bombay- the nerve center of Bollywood. Under the able tutelage of his father who was a renowned choreographer of the late ‘60s & ‘70s, he spread his wings and branched out on his own with the 1987 movie Pyar Karke Dekho which starred the foot tapper hero Govinda.
He followed it up with average box office fares but great song-and-dance routines with Hatya and Ladaai in 1988. The effervescent and dedicated Chinni kept dishing out one hit number after the other for four successive and fruitful years. Meeting Mukul S. Anand was a huge turning point in his career. He collaborated with the hit movie maker for Hum in 1991 and when Amitabh Bachchan grooved & jived to the super hit song “Jumma Chumma” (Hum), all the biggies woke up and took notice of the genius that is Chinni. Overnight, he became one of the most sought-after choreographers of Bollywood.
Later, Chinni Prakash was wooed by many big banners and was a part of hits such as, Saajan (1991), Khuda Gawah (1992) and Gumrah (1993). When Khiladi Kumar stepped in to jive, Chinni delivered many hit numbers alongside Akshay including Mohra (1994), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), and the Khiladi franchise. The common man’s hero Govinda also grooved to his moves in Coolie no. 1 (1995), Gambler (1997) and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998). By 2000 and beyond, his south Indian roots took precedence as Chinni became a wanted hotstepper down south. Not one to neglect his commitment to Bollywood, he had hit numbers in Dhadkan (2000) and Jodi no. 1 (2001) and the smash Hrithik-Ash hit Jodha Akbar (2008).
With his volume of ground-breaking work, awards were no surprise and Chinni Prakash won many accolades. His wife is the well-known choreographer Rekha Chinni Prakash and his niece Vaibhavi Merchant, initially trained under him before going solo.
