A band of thieves slammed their Jeep through the front window of Casty-Delphes, also called Casty, an upscale watch and jewelry shop near the Place Vendome in Paris, early Monday morning.

The team of four entered the shop through the gaping hole in the front of the store left by the crash, then went to town, looting a pile of jewelry and watches worth 2 million euros ($2.6 million). The shop, which is an official distributor of Rolex watches, lost 20 percent of its inventory in the raid, the French daily newspaper, La Parisien, reported.

The heist happened in a flash and once the thieves were done with their stealing, they set fire to their Jeep, which they left in the middle of the two-lane street, possibly to block people from chasing them. They drove off in a second vehicle which is known to have a big engine, according to reports.

Casty is located immediately next to the Westin hotel on Rue Castiglione and is a stone's throw from a cluster of luxury jewelry and watch shops, such as Cartier, Bulgari and Breguet, in the Place Vendome. The store's insurer told La Parisien that the shop's security system was impeccable, which it clearly wasn't.

Leads into who is responsible for the robbery have yet to be reported. An elite police force that specializes in serious thefts and frauds, the Brigade de Répression du Banditisme, is in charge of the investigation.

The theft follows another heist more than a month ago in Cannes where a masked robber helped himself to more than 100 million euros ($136 million USD) from the Carlton Intercontinental Hotel.
