Half ton killer: Transformed after losing 600 pounds

Mayra Rosales, known as the 'Half-ton killer' after falsely confessing to the death of her nephew in 2008, has lost 600 pounds and will be featured in a television documentary called 'Transformed'.

The 32-year-old Texas native first gained notoriety five years ago when she claimed to have smothered her 2-year-old nephew to death under the folds of her fleshy body. At her heaviest, Rosales weighed 1,200 pounds, and was bed-bound. However, it was her lack of mobility that raised suspicion during the murder trial, especially after it surfaced that the toddler suffered damage to the skull, something Rosales was physically incapable of.

It later came to light that Rosales had been covering for her sister, Jaime Rosales, the boy's mother, and Mayra was acquitted in 2011. Jaime, on the other hand, was found guilty and is now serving a 15-year sentence.

Since the start of the legal proceedings, Rosales has taken measures to get healthy and television documentary produced by American channel TLC follows her journey. A trailer of the show available online shows Rosales being removed from her home through a wall that had to be torn down to let her pass, as well as being taken to a hospital in a U-Haul moving truck, as she couldn't fit in an ambulance.

Rosales has also posted photos of her trimmer self on Facebook. During her process, she has had two surgeries, made drastic changes to her diet, and has followed a physical therapy program to regain her mobility. She is currently waiting for gastric bypass surgery and is working towards taking up daily tasks such as grocery shopping and working.
