Lead Guitar Lesson- Modern lead guitar lick in E minor with arpeggios and string skipping

In this guitar lesson, Jon MacLennan will teach you a cool lick that any modern and classic rock player should know. There are tons of great licks but this one has an interesting use of the minor pentatonic and string skipping arpeggios. That´s why I really recommend you to learn some of the examples you can find in our youtube channel. The good thing about this kind of licks is that you can use them in any musical context, such as jazz, blues, pop, even country, etc.
Ok, so... What is an arpeggio? an arpeggio is a broken chord where the notes are played or sung in succession rather than simultaneously. The word, like many other musical terms, originates from Italian, in which it means "in the manner of the harp".
And string skipping, the name says it all, for example in this lick starts in the 6th string and then go to the 4th string, then to the 5th and so on... This technique is commonly used to play arpeggios, tapping and scales.
I recommend you to check out great players like Greg Howe, Brett Garsed, Paul Gilbert, just to name a few. All these players use really interesting ideas with arpeggios and string skipping.
Alright, the example of today´s lesson is a pentatonic based lick where I´m using several scale shapes. It´s in E minor and as I said, I´m using the E pentatonic and the natural minor scale. Try it very slow at first and then start to increase the speed gradually.
And don´t forget to come up with your own ideas, which is the best advice for starting to find `your´ unique sound and style.
