In this guitar lesson, Jon MacLennan will teach you a cool basic country melodic pattern in the style of banjo players. And the main technique for playing this great lick is hybrid picking, which means that we will use the pick and fingers. So if you would like to start with this combination of picking and fingerstyle this is the right guitar lesson.
Ok, so... What is melodic pattern? It is a phrase that always repeats itself with the same rhythm or notes or both. Like the title says, this lick has a banjo style influence which is something pretty used in country music. So I recommend you to check out great country players like Albert Lee, Danny Gatton, Scotty Moore, Brent Mason, etc.
Alright, the example of today´s lesson is basically an E major chord played with a rhythm pattern of 4 notes per beat with hybrid picking. So start the excerpt very slow at first increasing gradually with a metronome.
And don´t forget to come up with your own ideas, which is the best advice for starting to find `your´ unique sound and style.
That is all for today... Anyway I suggest that you keep enjoying and learning from Jon MacLennan and all the staff of Guitarcontrol.com! Where? In our free guitar lessons at www.youtube.com/guitarcontrol
