Survivors mark the second anniversary of the sinking of Costa Concordia

Survivors of the capsized cruise liner the Costa Concordia have marked the second anniversary of the sinking off Tuscany.

On Giglio island, the accident that left 32 dead, was commemorated with a mass in the church that housed survivors on the night of the tragedy.

Adriano Procopio was a member of the crew the night the ship went down: “I lost five shipmates. That is why I am here. I want to honour those that lost their lives.”

Judges and survivors stood in silence at the theatre turned courtroom where Captain Francesco Schettino is accused of manslaughter, causing a shipwreck and abandoning the vessel before all passagers had been evacuated.

The trial has been postponed due to a strike by lawyers in Italy and has been reset for January 27.

Captain Schettino denies any wrongdoing.
