Crackdown on illegal migrant workers in Malaysia

The Malaysian government cracks down on illegal migrant workers.

More than 1,000 of them were rounded up in Kuala Lumpur and Sepang, and were required to show documentation.

Among them were workers from Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh and Thailand, local media said.

The interior minister said those found without valid documents will be deported within seven days.

Malaysia will not shoulder the costs of the deportations.

Malaysia is highly dependent on migrant workers who are employed in blue collar jobs ranging from domestic work to construction.
