Charleston De Paris 1960

The band goes in a crazy tempo and in my opinion it could make a good living as a circus band as well. Clarinettist Herb Hall played with our Climax Jazz Band in around 1978 (see his clip in Climax Jazz Band playlist) in Toronto's 300 seat restaurant/club called D.J.'s in the just opened Hydro Building, and we often discussed his experiences during his earlier jazz life. He had actually played for a while in the De Paris Band in the later part of the band's existence and he said that he didn't like it at all.
According to him it was more like playing an arranged show than real jazz.
Wilbur would play and use more and more obscure instruments in the arrangements. I don't think there are too many recordings from that later period. However the earlier band combinations were certainly worthwile.
