Spanish soccer fan throws dog at referee

Soccer fans are known for their passionate commitment to the sport, and Spanish fans are no exception. But things do at times get out of hand.

Such was the case in early February when an unnamed fan went to see a game between two regional teams in the southern Spanish city of Almeria in early February.

Now at some point during the game, the fan found himself disagreeing with a call made by the referee. Pissed off fans all over the world are known for verbal insults, rude gestures, and even a thrown water bottle or two.

But this fan made the news by becoming perhaps the first person in history to toss a dog--that's right--a dog, at a referee.

It's unclear if the animal was his own dog or just a random canine in the wrong place at the wrong time, but witnesses said the dog flew over 20 feet, and did not look happy about the experience, either.

Spanish police arrested the man, whom they declined to identify, and he is being charged with animal abuse and inciting violence during a sporting event, charges that will no doubt hound him for quite some time.
