Jimmy Fallon debuts at new Tonight Show host

Late night TV host Jimmy Fallon made a triumphant debut in New York on Monday night beginning hosting duties for the Tonight Show after last week calling curtains on his time hosting the Late Nights show on NBC ... stay with me here.

Bringing the show back to New York, he held court in the studio formerly occupied by his hero and showbiz legend Johnny Carson ...

The revamped Tonight Show's also undergone a subtle name change; now "starring" Fallon instead of just being "with" outgoing host Jay Leno. It'll be Fallon's show: he's even brought the Roots with him.

Leno's exit comes after the brief, doomed tenure of Conan O'Brien, a talented comedian who failed to win hearts of either viewers or NBC execs.

Former Saturday Night Live head writer Seth Meyers is taking over Fallon's old job, but really, does anyone care ... or plan on watching?

Whether Fallon's younger schtick will win over mainstream America is an open question, but we wish him well.
