The firm behind the upcoming S-512 Jet, Spike Aerospace, plans to eliminate windows and replace them with display screens.
Just like other industries, planes are also evolving rapidly, thanks to technology. The firm behind the upcoming S-512 Supersonic Jet, Spike Aerospace, plans to eliminate windows and replace them with display screens.
Cameras will be outfitted on the outside of the aircraft. The devices will be continuously recording and compiling images of the surroundings.
The screens will then exhibit the captured photos for travelers to enjoy. The technology allows passengers to take in magnificent views without any effort.
Shades on traditional jet windows often have to be pulled down due to unavoidable and annoying glare. The new screens can be dimmed to catch up on sleep, but that choice to do so is entirely up to the traveler.
A press release for the display screens pointed out ‘Spike Aerospace can eliminate the structural issues with windows and reduce the aircraft weight. In addition, the very smooth exterior skin will reduce the drag normally caused by having windows.’
The technology does have some skeptics however.
An aerospace engineering expert at the University of Central Lancashire said the simulated experience could make passengers feel like they're in a tube. He also voiced concerns over safety and possible camera failure.
