Man Accused of Kidnapping His Own Mom

A man from Richmond, Virginia has been accused of kidnapping his own mother.

A man from Richmond, Virginia has been accused of kidnapping his own mother. 20-year-old Regelio Lopez was found driving to Florida with his mom in the trunk of his Cadillac.

While en route to his intended destination, South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers saw the car. They quickly found the woman and arrested her son.

The ordeal started after an outstanding kidnapping warrant was issued on Lopez and Highway patrol officers were alerted of the alleged crime which occurred in the suspect’s home city of Richmond.

A description was released on Lopez’s car and sure enough it was spotted parked at a rest area in Santee, South Carolina. The mother, whose name was not released, was taken to the local Regional Medical Center after she was discovered in the trunk.

Lopez told cops he had been headed to Florida and somewhere along the journey he placed his mother in the trunk. He also admitted to stopping at a Dairy Queen to get his mom some food, but he punched her numerous times after she attempted to escape.

The circumstances surrounding the kidnapping are hazy, but according to Richmond police, Lopez was involved in an assault during the earling morning hours on the same date as the abduction.
