Who knew a cactus could be so devastating? On a recent Saturday night, a saguaro cactus caused some serious damage in Green Valley, Arizona.

The cactus, which reportedly measured 30 feet tall, came crashing down and landed next to a home. The residents of the house were home at the time.

They claimed to have heard a very loud crash at about 5:30 in the evening. When they got up to investigate, they saw the downed cactus. The impact tore the carport from the residence.

A golf cart and two vehicles, a vintage Cadillac and an SUV, were hidden under it. Fortunately, no humans were injured. The aftermath of the tumbled cactus wasn’t pleasant however.

Numerous arms were broken off and a giant portion of the cactus was left resting straight across the family’s driveway. A section of the cactus barreled into the street while another piece landed beside a neighbor’s home.

The belief is that heavy rainfall from the previous night tendered the soil around the cactus. Given that saguaros have very shallow roots, the softened dirt caused the cactus to fall.

No estimate on the damages was released.
