Russia proposes an alternative solution to the Ukraine crisis

Following a meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin on Monday, Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has announced proposals have been drawn up to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.
Moscow says a solution to the standoff should be come from an EU-brokered agreement signed by ousted Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych. This would apparently take into account all Ukrainian interests.
But, during the meeting in Sochi, Lavrov told Putin Russia’s stance on Ukraine conflicts with the West. He said the West wanted Russia and the United States to align their positions.
US Secretary of State, John Kerry, has been invited to meet Lavrov to discuss Russia’s new proposals concerning the crisis. Kerry says he will only accept the offer if Moscow “engages seriously” on a diplomatic solution.
Meanwhile NATO has given the go-ahead to reconnaissance flights over Poland and Romania to help monitor the situation in Ukraine.
