In the moments after a car crash, most drivers assume things can't get any worse. Two motorists in La Cañada Flintridge, California, however, learned how downright miserable the situation can become.

The female drivers had been involved in a minor two car accident. Right after the crash, the ladies stepped outside to exchange insurance information only to be swarmed by hundreds of bees..

The wreck occurred a little before 3 in the afternoon. The vehicles collided on the road and one of the cars ended up hitting a tree. That impact dislodged a beehive overhead.

The end result was thousands of bees on the attack. Both females, aged 51 and 17 were repeatedly stung.

The younger woman was stung anywhere from 50 to 100 times.

The 51-year-old ran to a nearby residence and jumped in a swimming pool but the bees continued to swarm around her head.

"Captain Rob Gibbons with LA County Fire was one of the first responders on scene. He said woman in the pool was stung a thousand times before being rescued by firefighters and taken to a hospital." [KNBC]

Hours after the accident, many local residents stayed inside their homes, as the bees had remained in the vicinity.
