Claudia is 22 years old and lives alone in a large Mexican city. One night, she must undergo an appendicitis operation in an ER ward. Here she becomes friends with Martha, who is in the bed next to hers. Martha is 46 years old, has 4 children and an irrepressible joie de vivre. When she is released from hospital, Martha invites Claudia to move into her home. Although initially thrown by the little house's chaotic organization, Claudia progressively finds her place amongst the tribe. As Martha's health weakens, Claudia's bonds with each member of the family grow stronger every day.
