Kansas man accused of guitar string decapitation: James Paul Harris pleads innocent

James Paul Harris is pleading innocent to the guitar string beheading of 49-year-old Topeka resident James Gerety.

Thomas Henderson, an attorney who provided services to Gerety, stated that he planned to move in with Harris prior to his disappearance in April 2011.

Bobbie Williams, a former girlfriend of Harris, said he practiced Voodoo and had three Voodoo dolls hanging from the ceiling of their apartment.

Williams testified last week that he had told her that he shot Gerety in the stomach before torturing him for two days in his home. Harris then beheaded Gerety using a guitar string and kept it in a canvas bag so that he could talk to it. He allegedly put Gerety's torso, arms, and legs in a barrel and buried it according to Williams' testimony.

One year after the murder, Shirley Johnson, who was living with Harris' father, found part of the victim's skull while mushroom hunting. She gave it to Harris' father who alerted authorities.

Harris is in the Osage County jail awaiting a June 23 trial.
