Woman facing eviction glues landlord's doors shut, sets own flat on fire

A Tokyo woman who had been ordered to vacate her apartment because she was making too much noise was arrested after she allegedly tried to glue other doors in her building shut and set fire to her own flat earlier this week.

The suspect, Yukiko Hirano, an unemployed woman in her 40s, is accused of injecting adhesive into a number of keyholes in apartments owned by her 77-year-old landlord in Tokyo's Suginami Ward late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. She also suffered serious burns in a suspected attempt to burn down her own apartment.

Hirano had been the subject of noise complaints from her next-door neighbours since 2008 and received a court order to move out of her apartment on Thursday.

Police say she confessed to all charges.
