I was in need of a good pair of home theater speakers for a Marantz Receiver I had just ordered.

I came across some wonderful and accurate reviews from MM Smith, K LaBarre and F Wheeler (as well as few others). I bookmarked this page and looked at a couple of others: some newer with more features but more expensive, others less expensive but the circuitry was less than optimal.

It took a couple of days and a 2-day sale to get me to buy the Yahama's along with MediaBridge's 100'/ 16-gauge speaker wire and subwoofer cable in addition to a box of Monoprice's banana plugs (all recommendations that by the reviewers I just mentioned.)

And, the recommendations have served me well after I fired up the BluRay player and played a movie.

*** Set Up ***

When we set up the speakers to test out the Marantz receiver, we took the recommendation of a tech to NOT center the subwoofer directly under and equi-distant between the left and right channels. We had a choice of either placing this front-firing subwoofer just off-center or in a corner. We chose the corner.

After calibrating the speakers to the receiver, which took about 20 minutes, the end result was a sound that filled our 15' x 10' x 10' room that closely resembles a real theatre.

*** Video clip ***

In the last 3 minutes of this video clip, you'll see a comparison between the HDTV's native "Tru Surround" speakers and the combo of Marantz receiver and the Yamaha 5.1 speakers. Because of Amazon's video compression model, the difference is sound quality and power is greatly repressed.
