Pro-unity Ukrainians try to regain lost ground to pro-Russians in Odessa

Pro-unity Ukrainians gathered outside the police headquarters in Odessa late on Sunday evening to show their support for the city’s new police chief.
Many said they were concerned at the breakdown of law and order.
Ivan Katerinchuck promised to bring those responsible for the deaths of over 40 pro-Russian activists in a fire on Friday to justice, whatever their allegiance
But the divisions within the city appear to be deepening. One
young demonstrator said he was there to protect people from the pro-Russian activists who want Odessa to join the Russian Federation.
Pro-unity supporters appear to be increasing their own militancy as the uprising against the government in Kyiv spreads.
Earlier pro-Russian activists had stormed a police station freeing nearly 70 of their number who had been detained following Friday’s deadly clashes.
Chanting “we will not forgive” they broke down the gate to the compound.
It’s thought police freed the detainees in a bid to calm the crowd.
Moscow has accused Kyiv of engineering Friday’s violence.
