A preliminary map of Los Angeles County fault lines released in January has left many making worst-case scenario plans.

New preliminary maps of Los Angeles County fault lines released in January has left many making worst-case scenario plans.

It’s not the official and final analysis, but so far the situation is not looking good.

It appears that one of the earthquake danger zones runs through one of Southern California’s most popular areas – Hollywood.

Schools, landmarks, hotels, new building projects, and numerous private residences are all affected.

By law, no new construction can happen in these vulnerable areas, and those with existing properties have been left scrambling for solutions.

Historically, public schools faced with the situation have responded with partial demolitions and full relocations.

Homeowners must decide whether to stay and take the risk, or sell. In the latter case they would have to disclose the information to potential buyers.

Big name hotels on West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip, including the Mondrian and the Standard, are finding themselves in the midst of a delicate public relations web.

Among the only to comment on the situation is the Standard, which announced they will be conducting their own examinations and exploring structural reinforcement possibilities.

The California Geological Survey will be releasing a definitive assessment of the area in the coming months, possibly as early as July.
