Syria's government and rebel groups traded blame Monday for a Friday (April 10) gas attack on a rural village that reportedly killed two.

A poison gas attack took place in a rebel-held village in Syria on April 10.

The attack reportedly killed two and wounded dozens in the rural village of Kfar Zeita on Friday.

The chemical agent used was likely chlorine gas.

Chlorine gas can be deployed as a weapon using a variety of canisters or shells.
Exposure to chlorine gas causes breathing difficulties and suffocation.

Syrian state TV agreed that poison gas had been used on April 10, but blamed the attack on an Al-Qaeda linked rebel group. Rebels blame government forces.

Various chemical weapons have been used at least four confirmed times over the now three-year-long Syrian civil war, but it's proved difficult to conclusively assign blame for the attacks, which under international law are considered war crimes.
