Kieran Sorkin, who was born without ears, has finally gotten the pair of his dreams thanks to a surgery in which his own ribs were used to construct them.

He came into the world with a rare condition that rendered him deaf and having only developed small lobes.

Previous procedures gave him some ability to hear and the latest one provided him with the ‘big’ ears he’s long wished for.

The surgery took six hours and began with the extraction of cartilage from both sides of the boy’s rib cage.

What was harvested was sculpted into the ear framework and then inserted and grafted beneath the flesh.

A vacuum tool was used to carefully form the skin onto the contours of the implant.

After waking from the procedure, one of the first things Kieran did was, with the help of his parents, take a selfie of the results.

Kieran’s father said that the child had experienced troubles at school because he wasn’t like the other students.

He believes this will be an enormous confidence booster.

The father also mentioned that the decision to go ahead with the surgery was left up to Kieran.
