Monks and nuns greet Pope Francis

More than 4,000 faithful nuns and monks welcome Pope Francis, Saturday.

In a town 75 miles south of Seoul, the Pope urges them to stay on the right path, and dedicate their lives to the needy.

(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) POPE FRANCIS, SAYING:

"Think, too, of how dangerous a temptation it is to adapt a purely functional, worldly mentality which leads to placing our hope in human means alone and destroys the witness of poverty which our Lord Jesus Christ lived and taught us."

Earlier in the day, the Pope led a ceremony to beatify 124 Korean martyrs, laid to rest in this graveyard.

They were killed for refusing to renounce Christianity in the 18th and 19th centuries.

But on this five-day trip, Pope Francis is fostering faith -- in a country that has seen the number of Catholics double in the past 25 years.
