Three Hamas leaders killed in Gaza

Overnight, Israeli air strikes have killed three top Hamas commanders in Gaza, say militants.
Mohammed Abu Shamala, Mohammed Barhoum and Raed al-Attar died in the attack on a four-storey building in Rafah, which also killed civilians in the area. Dozens of people are reported to be missing.
The three dead commanders are said to have been central in constructing tunnels, smuggling and kidnapping Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in 2006.
The strikes came after yesterday’s failed attempt to kill Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif, whose wife and son were killed in the attack along with several other civilians.
That attack prompted retaliatory rocket fire, and militants warned foreign airlines not to use Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport. Air travel has not however been disrupted.
During the past six weeks, at least 2,103 people have died, 67 in Israel, and all the rest in Gaza, most of them civilians.
