This was a Damascus suburb on Thursday

Government forces pounded residential neighborhoods here and dropped barrel bombs in Aleppo on a day that saw attacks on almost all of Syria's major cities, seen in this video posted to a social media website whose content Reuters cannot independently verify.

In Idlib, a plea for medical help for this injured boy as the dust from air strikes was still settling.

Civilians rushed to the impact site to search for survivors while others ushered people from adjacent buildings.

The attacks came a day after U.S. President Barack Obama announced plans to use air strikes to target Islamic State militants here.

Damascus has warned Washington to stay out of Syria, which is in the middle of a three year battle against rebel and extremist groups - some considered more brutal than al Qaeda.
