The Livescribe 3 is a device that is changing the old school task of note taking. The gadget is a wireless ink pen that sends handwritten entries to an iPad or iPhone in real time. It can also operate as a recorder to ensure that during meetings and such important points aren’t missed.

While the earlier versions of Livescribe pens offered users similar options and possibilities, the latest model is the first that doesn’t require manual synching to computers. Instead it does the job automatically.

Pen strokes morph into pixels thanks to the pen’s high-speed infrared camera. The smartpen records your written words and then copies those notes directly to an Apple device via a Livescribe app and Bluetooth technology. Slow writers – or easily distracted people - need not worry about missing even a bit of information during a presentation as the audio recording and written information are time-synced.

In order for the script part of the process to work, note takers need to use both the smartpen and the special paper that goes along with it.
