It's the first time the United States, backed by Arab allies, has bombed Syria, as it pursues a campaign against Islamic State militants in the heart of the Middle East.
Dozens of air and missile strikes hit against IS targets in northern and eastern Syria, according to U.S. Central Command.
The strikes had the participation or the support of Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
The targets were training camps, command and control centers, storage facilities and weapon supplies.
Dozens of IS fighters were reportedly killed.
The strikes hit targets around the cities of Raqqa, Deir al-Zor, Hasakah and Albu Kamal.
