Inside The Americas

In-depth reports and analysis from our extensive network of correspondents throughout the region on developments in Latin America. Today's program takes a look at Break the Cup, a movement of artists, cultural promoters, and producers in Tegucigalpa, Honduras who are against the municipal fees recently applied to such events by the government headed by President Juan Orlando Hernandez. The high fees, not charged to cultural events at US franchises or sponsored by the government, will inhibit artistic production, the movement charges. Break the Cup/Romper la Tasa, whose symbol is a coffee cup, is actually a play on words, as "tasa" means both cup and fee. The movement seeks to create an alternative culture, a culture of peace, love and respect in a city with one of the highest murder rates in the world. teleSUR
