The simple activity of viewing zoo animals in their enclosures usually delights visitors. However animal lovers are now upset because some of the animals at a wildlife facility in Switzerland are being sold for human consumption.

The Langenberg wildlife park has a restaurant on its grounds, offering dishes made with the meat of deer and boar killed on the property.

A spokesperson at the park, Martin Kilchenmann, has confirmed that the meat from killed creatures is on the menu for visitors. He stood behind the decision and called it an ecological move. He also believes it shows people the natural cycle of the animal kingdom.

Around the world deer meat, known as venison, is available at many restaurants. However, the dishes served at this zoo's restaurant are causing turmoil because of its surroundings.

Space restrictions at the park mean only a certain number of animals can live there. If the creatures cannot be moved elsewhere, they are killed and used in the restaurant.

About 100 animals are born on the grounds annually, raising the question of why efforts aren’t being made to keep the births limited.
