Hong Kong activists recapture streets after police crackdown

These protesters are here to stay. They've recaptured parts of a core protest zone from Hong Kong police.

Police still want them off the streets. They say the city's reputation is at stake, and blame radicals for the recent violence.

Close to Hong Kong's government headquarters, police beat back hundreds of protesters when they surged onto a main road.

But come Saturday afternoon, around 1,000 protesters remained spread out on the eight-lane highway.

The mainly student protesters won't leave until China's Communist Party rulers grant full democracy to Hong Kong.

And after three weeks of protests, police are getting increasingly frustrated with their occupation.
