It looks like just as ‘Back to the Future’ predicted, there will be a hoverboard available in 2015.

The catch is that it won’t be quite as versatile as Marty McFly’s.

A California start-up company is launching one that they say will carry people from points A to B.

And it will, as long as those two places aren’t too far from one another and there’s an appropriate surface between them.

The board is called a Hendo and it works by using magnetic levitation much like maglev trains do.

That means that the path of the journey must be covered with a compatible material – namely, nonferrous metals such as aluminum and copper.

Once that requirement is met, rides can last up to 15 minutes and the craft can carry a little over 300 pounds.

They’re being made available through a Kickstarter campaign. The minimum pledge required to score a hoverboard is 10 thousand dollars.

Also on offer is a small white box that developers can use to make just about anything float.

Prices for it start at around 300 dollars and, depending upon the option package selected, go upwards to right around a grand.
