Eric Frein, the survivalist who was a suspect in a sniper shooting that led to a weeks-long and massive manhunt, was captured as part of a routine sweep and not from a tip, Pennsylvania law enforcement officials said on Friday (October 31).

Frein, who was captured on Thursday night and held with the handcuffs of the Pennsylvania trooper he is accused of slaying, arrived at court on Friday to face murder charges.

"This was not the result of a tip or a sighting. This was the result of an ongoing pressure put on Frein by law enforcement," said Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania state police at a brief news conference shortly after Frein's arraignment.

Prosecutors will seek capital punishment for the 31-year-old survivalist, who faces a first-degree murder charge and one count of homicide of a police officer, among other charges, Pike County District Attorney Raymond Tonkin said
