US Senate fails to pass two major bills on oil pipeline and spying

The United States Senate yesterday failed to pass a bill approving the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline, the 1,897km pipeline that would carry tar sands oil from Alberta, Canada, to the Gulf of Mexico.
Also voted down yesterday was the USA Freedom Act which would have ended controversial phone spying by the National Security Agency, but the Senate was not in favor of rolling back any of the government's broad surveillance powers. teleSUR
