Knights of the Turntable #13: Is Jean Grae Hip Hop’s Da Vinci?

Welcome to week 13 of Knights of the Turntable, our podcast in which we speak about Hip Hop music. This week we spent a lot of time discussing the Pitchfork article Jean Grae’s Spectacular Second Act. The article highlights some of Jean Grae’s other artistic talents outside of the rap music realm. She has an independent sit-com, an audio book and an RnB EP.

It may not be rap, but it’s still Hip Hop in my eyes. Hip Hop is all about expressing creativity, and this doesn’t just have to be via rap music. Being an artist is more than just laying your vocals over a beat, and Jean Grae is setting a great example for everyone who calls themselves an artist. Matt McDean made the comparison to Da Vinci, which is pretty accurate. Let us know your thoughts on this subject!
