Unfortunately, many turtles get caught in fishing nets and die.

Recently one such deceased Olive Ridley Sea Turtle washed up on a beach in the Darwin Region of Australia and a salt water crocodile decided to make a meal out of it.

The Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory shared photos from the incident on social media. Several animals had approached the dead sea turtle, however the crocodile was certainly the most aggressive.

It crept right up the turtle and it doesn’t seem like the massive reptile wasted any time getting down to business. With its mouth wide open, the crocodile attacked the shell and sent pieces of it flying into the air.

Once that was out of the way, it consumed the leftover meat. Prior to becoming a crocodile's meal, rangers had discovered the sea turtle trapped in a ghost net.

Upon realizing it was already dead, they decided to cut the net to allow wildlife to eat the turtle. Discarded fishing nets are a significant threat to the turtles as they often get caught in them and drown.
