The grinch tried to steal Christmas from Sony PlayStaton and Microsoft Xbox users.

The gaming sites experienced connection problems starting Christmas Eve and a hacker group called the Lizard Squad claimed responsibility.

Christmas Day was expected to be a big one for the game consoles - users excited to hook up their new systems.

This comes on the heels of the cyberattack on Sony Pictures related to its movie "The Interview" about a plot to kill North Korea's leader.

After being canceled in many theater chains, the Xbox was one of the places it was distributed, though it was not available on the Sony PlayStation.

As of 9 am this morning, Sony says the PlayStation network remains offline, and there's no indication when service will resume.

Microsoft says Xbox Live Core Services are up and running. However, some of its apps including I-G-N, Maxim, and M-L-G TV are limited.
