"The Last Ship" annouces its last sail

Sting's Broadway musical "The Last Ship" is set to close after a short sail.

The Grammy winner has been performing in the show - set in his childhood hometown - since December to boost tickets sales.

In the first full week of Sting's performances, the musical that cost 15 million U.S. dollars to stage nearly doubled its profits but it wasn't enough to keep the musical afloat.

Sting replaced British actor Jimmy Nail as Jackie White, a foreman of a closed shipyard in the town of Wallsend.

The production will play its final performance on January 24th, with Sting continuing in the musical until it closes.
