The heartless ways in which some pet owners abandon their animals is astonishing.

The Scottish SPCA or Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is highlighting a case involving an abandoned dog in an effort to locate his owners.

On Friday, the pooch named Kai was left at a railway station along with a roll-along bag that was filled with his belongings. Kai had been secured to a railing outside the facility.

Via his microchip, investigators determined his name and former owners, who claimed they sold him in 2013 on Gumtree, a free online classified ads website.

SPCA Inspector Stewart Taylor commented “Unfortunately they could not tell us the address of the person who bought him… Regardless of the fact Kai was left with his belongings, this was still a cruel incident and we are keen to identify the person responsible.”

Taylor is asking anyone with information to come forward with tips. He also used the case to point out the issues that come up when a pet is sold online to new owners who often purchase dogs impulsively.

Kai is anywhere from two to three years of age and Taylor describes him as a good-natured pooch.
